AGARTALA, July 27 (TIWN): Despite trying their utmost best to solve it wisely, unemployment has turned out to be a serious problem that the state’s Left front government is facing currently. However, keeping this view and after being asked Tripura Governor talking exclusive to a local media channel said recently the TATA trust agreeing to the invitation of Tripura Government had arrived here and inked a pact with the government towards exploring business prospect in the land-locked state. Governor Tathagata Roy said building up crafts and industry is the only solution to the unemployment problem in the state.

The industrial sector of the state continues to be highly underdeveloped. Brickfields and tea industry are the only two organised sectors. The state has great potential, and has not received the recognition it deserves.

Governor Tathagata Roy said the joint initiative by the Tripura Government and the TATA trusts intends to implement interventions in the field of industrial sector. “The state needs to grow big with industry friendly status only then the unemployment problem would be solved and also the state’s economy would be developed,” Roy said.

The MoU was signed by Tripura Principal Secretary K Rajeshwar Rao and Executive Trustee of Tata Trusts R Venkataramanan in the presence of Ratan Tata to implement interventions in the field of dairy development, fisheries, skill development, education, nutrition and health, for improvement in the quality of life of the people of the state.

Roy said that while talking to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in regard of the industrial growth he informed that the state government is already eyeing forward towards expunging the unemployment problem and planning to grow the industrial sector of the state.

“The state government is cooperating with the industrialists of the nation and are finding the possibility of growing the industrial sector of the state,” Roy appreciated Tripura Government.

The economy of Tripura can be characterized by high rate of poverty, low capital formation, inadequate infrastructure facilities, geographical isolation and communication bottlenecks, inadequate exploration and use of forest and mineral resources, slow industrialization and high unemployment. More than 50% of the population depends on agriculture for sustaining their livelihood.

The state government through its Tripura Industrial Policy and Tripura Industrial Incentives Scheme, has offered heavy subsidies in capital investment and transport, preferences in government procurement, waivers in tender processes and fees, yet the impact has been not much significant beyond a few industries being set up in the Bodhjungnagar Industrial Growth Center.

It is worthy to be mentioned here that as regards educated persons, possessing technical qualifications, they tend to be frustrated when they do not find employment despite their best qualifications.

Whereas the state Left front government finding every possibility is moving ahead to empower the youths and bring as many as a people under the coverage of skill development training programme.

“As a matter of principle it becomes the duty of government to provide employment to all as far as possible and we are blessed that our government is taking keen interest to solve this series problem of today,” Government.

Ratan Tata signing pact with the Tripura Government said that Tata is keen to create prosperity not by being exploitive, not by taking natural resource or assets from here and developing from outside but creating livelihood for people we are working with a view to make a difference and to increase the dignity and self-respect of the community with whom we work.

He assured that his company will not be exploitative, and stand as partner to see prosperity of the state as well as the nation.
