AGARTALA, July 13 (TIWN): Opposing a sudden ban on private tuitions, Students’ Guardian Forum on Sunday setting a deadline urged to legalise private practise until the High Court verdicts the final order in this regard. Batting for the private tuition the guardians’ forum claimed, “The sudden ban on private tuition by the government teachers would hamper the studies of the students at large.”

The forum on Sunday held a press conference here at Agartala demanding to legalise the private tuition.

They claimed, “We urge the state government to legalise the same until the High Court gives its final verdict in this regard.”

"We don't get many working days in school. Moreover, in allotted periods in school no teacher can satisfactorily explain complicated subjects. Therefore, we cannot do without private tuition," the forum claimed.

They also said, “We are not acting on behest of the teachers who had already left the private practises but we are raising our voice against the decision to ban private practises thinking further towards the development of students of the state in regard of their studies.”

“We do support the ban on private tuitions but the sudden ban would of course hamper the studies of our children,” the forum claimed.

However, the banning of private tuition had completely ruined the studies of deprived students as after the HC on its interim order asked the state government to place the status report on banning the private tuition, while most of the teachers had already quit the private practises.

"The teachers have stopped private coaching, but the quality of teaching in schools did not improve. In the present system, school learning is not at all sufficient. So, we have to first see the quality of education and ensure sufficient classes in schools before banning private tuition. Otherwise, students will suffer," said the forum.

However, the demand has come up on Sunday following the statement of Tripura ICA Minister Bhanulal Saha.

Saha terming private tuition as ‘illegal business’, asked the government school teachers to focus in classroom teaching rather than in their private coaching centers.

Saha said that a student can achieve success without opting for private tuition. “Apart from classroom, spending 5-6 hours in preparing lessons everyday is enough for a student to score good marks in the examinations. There is no need to go for private coaching,” the ICA minister said.

Taking a serious concern over the mushrooming private tuition by the government and government-aided schools,  High Court of Tripura asked the Chief Secretary and secretary of Education Department to file an affidavit whether the government has taken any action to ban private tuition.
