AGARTALA, June 25 (TIWN): Despite seeking intervention of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to dismiss the TSR and police personnel who resorted to lathi charge and fired leaving many injured during the Pecharthal violence, a section of REGA workers including the Buddhists and the Chakmas under Unakoti District who were allegedly hit and fired by the police on the very day yet today received no justice.

At least twelve REGA  workers of the Chakma communities, including three policemen, were injured when mob attacked government and ruling CPI-M offices in Tripura and clashed with police over delay in payment of wages under the rural jobs scheme.

Interestingly, yet after the passage of at least three months the state Left fron Government had failed to print the investigation report. Talking to TIWN on Wednesday DM, Unakoti Mrinal Kanti Nath said, “We have already tabled the investigation report of the Pecharthal violence with the state Home Department.” The report was submitted on April 17.

The central government has changed the method of disbursement of money to MGNREGA workers resulting delay in wage payment, said the officials as a result however, a large section of REGA workers on the very day of the violence took places on the month of April this year had hit the streets and roads demanding for their wages and action against the TSR police who were allegedly engaged to open fire on the mob.

The violence had come up prior to the already concluded elections to the tribal council. Hundreds of REGA workers were seen blocking the roads and the streets across the state following the non-payment of their wages.

However, later after the incident took place the Unakoti District administration were asked to frame the investigation report hearing the witness to the incident. Following which the DM, Unakoti had already tabled the report with the state Home department, but interestingly to curtain the failure the state government had failed to print the investigation report yet toady.

The investigation to the incident has come up after politically issued incident at Pecharthal had called for a bandh at Unakoti District.

The opposition claimed, “It is absolutely a shame for the state govt. here where the deprived REGA workers from their wages had to sustain bullet-injured by the police while seeking their minimum wages that remained pending for the last many months.” The Chakma community demanded that on the very day at Unakoti Pecharthal Block the police opened fire on them and on their religious temple acting on behest of the Unakoti SP L. Darlong. However the community demanded the suspension of Darlong soon.

It is to be mentioned here that a joint delegation of Tripura Rejyo Chakma Samajik Parishad , Tripura Chakma Students’Association and Pecharthal Udayan Buddha Bihar had also met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and submitted a 7 point proposals of solution about resentment of Chakma community for police firing at Udayan Buddha Bihar on April 13.

On April 25 DM (Unakoti) Mrinal Kanti Nath called for a public hearing of the Pecharthal violence case. A total of 21 people had come up during the hearing as a witness to the issue, but despite the investigation report was submitted with the state home department, the state government had not yet published the investigation report and neither any necessary action has been taken against those police who allegedly gun-fired on the Chakma community people.
