 ADC voters under threat from IPFT supporters at Khowai in wake of poll, security deployed at Khowai Ramchandraghat

KHOWAI, May 2 (TIWN): With the general election to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council to be held on May 3 on Sunday, the ADC voters at Khowai Chonkhola village were reported facing threatening from a section of IPFT supporters. However, the incident has triggered a panic among the villagers with the police issued warning to the accused IPFT supporters. The incident was reported on Friday from Khowai Chinkhola under Baijolbari Police Station. It has been learnt that some 25 IPFT youth supporters on Friday night visiting the concerned villages threatened the voters at the area and has allegedly warned the voters not to vote for any other party in this ADC poll. The IPFT supporters also allegedly threatening the voters said if they do not vote for IPFT than their hands would be cut and would have to pay for it in future. However, the IPFT supporters were identified as Samir Debbarma (30), Sanab Debbarma and others. Reportedly they have been seen loitering in and around the villages by motor cycle during the night hours and had visited most of the villages and threatened the ADC voters to vote for IPFT. Later getting an alarm Ramchandraghat MLA Poddo Debbarma along with the party supporters reached the spot and had a chat with the villagers, but while returning back from the spot were allegedly attacked by those IPFT youths.

However later getting information Khowai SDPO, Additional SP along with the Khowai PS OC rushed to the spot and recovered one motor cycle left by one IPFT youth, while the accused supporters managed to escape from the spot.

Local police along with TSR, BSFs and central paramilitary forces were deployed at the area to maintain law and order situation. However the incident has triggered a panic among the villagers who were threatened by the IPFT supporters on Friday night.  

Asked about the issue, Khowai Additional SP said, “We have deployed security personnel at the area to maintain law and order situation.” He also said that police is on a move to arrest those accused IPFT supporters who were found creating havoc at the area.

However, but the police failed to detained the accused youths and had lead the villagers in panic despite several security forces were deployed across the area for ADC poll.
