 Inhuman torture on women by husband and in-laws: Police in the role of mute spectator: Delegates of Women Congress visits the house of victims

UDAIPUR, April 27 (TIWN): A woman suffered inhuman torture at the hands of husband, brother-in-law and father-in-law at Amarpur Shantipalli area. Though complaint had already been registered, but police plays a role of mute spectator. In the meantime, District Mahila Congress had visited the house of the victim and took an overview of the whole situation.

Sources informed that on July 13th, previous year, resident of Udaipur-Chandrapur Colony, Sridam Debnath’s second daughter Lipika got married to Rakesh Debnath of Amarpur Shantipalli area. After passing one or two months inhuman torture started on Lipika for dowry by husband, Rakesh Debnath, father-in-law Nepal Debnath and brother-in-law Partha Debnath. It is to be mention sometime, Partha tried to molest and rape Lipika infront of husband and father-in-law.But when Lipika complaint to her husband, no satisfactory result comes out.

The situation becomes worse when Lipika had learnt about the illicit affair of Rakesh with the resident of Melaghar Bairagi Bazar’s widow Kanika Chakraborty. After that Kanika comes frequently in the house and on March 21st, both Kanika and Rakesh had beaten Lipika severely. The ice breaks when on April 19; Kanika becomes senseless due to the inhuman torture.

The family members of the Kanika’s parent house had rushed to the spot and admitted Lipika to the Gomati hospital. After that a complaint had been registered bearing the No. 26/2015 under section 498/120(B). But still now police had not taken steps against the culprits.

In the meantime, on Sunday, 10 members delegation team of Udaipur Mahila Congress and Tripura Pradesh congress with VicePresident Sabita Nag had visited the house of victims and ensures the proper justice for the victim.

Tripura gradually emerges as the unsafe and unprotective place for the women in the Golden-era of so-called Mr. Clean Manik Sarkar. Data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) also tell that every second day a woman is raped in Tripura (as of 2012) with the figure of202 rape cases in 2012 alone.

Additionally, an alarming 375 cases were reported as regards assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty. 1147 cases were reported under the head Cruelty by Husband or his relatives (Under IPC 498A), in the year 2012.Not only the serious crimes like murders and women related crimes but the Police have also performed poorly when it comes to safeguarding the properties of people. A mere less than 35 % success rate has been registered.
