Kailasahar goes for 24 hours strikes called by CPI-M and Unnayan Mancha cripples normal life

KAILASAHAR, April 20 (TIWN): The dawn to dusk strike called by the CPI-M and Unnayan Mancha separately paralysed normal life and business in Kailasahar on Monday. The strike was enforced to demand set up border haat at Unakoti District, rail service from Kumarghat or Pecharthal station to Bangladesh via Kailasahar and others.

With a total of 13 points charter of demands the Kailasahar Unnayan Mancha on Monday called for a dawn to dusk strike while the CPI-M Unakoti divisional committee separately called for 24 hours strike on the very day with 15 points charter of demands criticizing the negligence role of the central govt.

Calling for 24 hours strike Unnayan Mancha on Monday demanded the stste govt. to set up fertilizer factory at Kailasahar, to set up border haat to facilitate the traders, to take a move in regard of land acquisition, to start a rail service from either Kumarghat rail station or Pecharthal station to Bangladesh via Kailasahar soon along with other 9 points charter of demands.

Besides, coming down heavily on the role of the central govt. the Unakoti Divisional Committee CPI-M on its separate calling for a strike today demanded the central govt. to fulfill the demand of setting up of border haat soon at Kailasahar along with to start the rail service to Bangladesh form Kailashar. It said that if the demands are not fulfilled soon than the CPI-M divisional committee would sit for a dharna at Delhi in future.

However, it is to be mentioned here that the strike called by Unnayan Mancha on Monday at Kailasahar was endorsed by the opposition congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Pradesh Committee.

The strike jointly called by the Unnayan Mancha and the CPI-M today had crippled the normal life at the entire Kailsahar sub-division.

While government and non-government offices, shops, markets and banks remained shut, rail and vehicular traffic were disrupted by the strike in Kailashahar (the headquarters of Unokoti district), 170 km north of here.

The strike as of now was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.
