Tripura Gymnastic Association organizes 44th State level Gymnastics (Men and Women) Championship

AGARTALA, April 18 (TIWN): Two days 44th State level Gymnastics (Men and Women) Championship, 2014-15 starts on Saturday organized by Tripura Gymnastic Association at Indoor Hall, DDSSC, Badharghat. The programme starts with the arrival of distinguished guests.

Among the distinguished guests, Dr. Sushila Devi, petron, Tripura Gymnastic Association shared the stage as Guest of Honour. Secretary of Tripura Sports Council, Bimal Kumar Roychoudhury was present as special guest. But the main attraction is the Golden Girl of Tripura- Dipa Karmakar and her coach Biseshwar Nandi. Apart from that Samarjit Bhowmik, Secretary, Education (Youth Affairs Sports) Department was also present.

Delivering speech, Dipa Karmakar told that”Gymnastics had a shinning future in Tripura. There is lot of youngsters teeming with energy here. Tripura has got really good potential for gymnastics. I can see a good number of international players coming up from here. They just need encouragement and practice.”

On the otherhand, Samarjit Bhowmik stressed on the importance of Gymnastics mentioning that,” Gymnastics is widely renowned as a sport that can improve overall fitness, strength, balance and body control (1), as well as helping to improve athletic performance in any other sport. Gymnastics provides a unique and valuable social education and experience. It provides an ideal opportunity to learn about teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play and dedication.

The time required to master the fundamental skills requires a great amount of patience, dedication, perseverance and planning. Regular gymnastics therefore helps people learn to work hard for objectives that can take years to achieve.In the modern world of quick-fixes, instant communication and fast food there is a need for young people to develop their character using methods of delayed gratification and gymnastics is a perfect activity for such development.
