AGARTALA, April 15 (TIWN): With the fragrance of Bengali dishes and sweets people of the state Tripura along with others on Wednesday celebrates Bangla Nababarsha 1422 with much enthusiasm and with a hope that the coming days would bring a lots of joy and happiness.
The Hindu devotees visiting the temples across the state with the women thronged to the temples has marked the day of Bangla Nababarsha as usual on Wednesday. Later, coming to home tasting several flavored dishes and exchange of sweets taking the blessing of elders has of course marked the ritual and culture of Benglais on the eve of Bengali New Year.
Part of the tradition of the businessmen is that they close all their book of accounts and start a new one at the first day of the Bengali calendar. This is believed as a way of renewing and strengthening the business relationships with their customers and business partners.
The Pohela Boishakh is warmly and joyfully celebrated all over the state and to other countries and states who adopted the Bengali calendar. People celebrate the event with loud festivities and parades to the streets. Over time, the celebration, which had no religious connotation from the start, became an integral part of Bengali culture.
Bangla Nababarsha (Nôbobôrsho) is the first day of the Hindu Bengali calendar which is celebrated by the people of Bangladesh every 14th of April in the Gregorian calendar. New Year’s Day celebration is also known to the Bengali as Pohela Boishakh.
The tradition of the celebration of the first day of the Bengali calendar was introduced the Mughal Emperor when he reformed the calendar so that the collection of taxes would match up with the harvesting period.
