VISAKHAPATNAM / AGARTALA, April 14 (TIWN): In-spite of the media outburst and the deterioration of the party’s image nationally owing to the Rose Valley fiasco, the Politburo is set to reinforce their confidence on chief minister Manik Sarkar. The party will not take any chance to experiment at this critical juncture when the very existence of the left party in the national political arena is under question, believes political analysts. The 21st Party Congress of the CPI(M) at Visakhapatnam is expected to concentrate more towards steps for regaining the party’s lost ground throughout the country. Out of power from two very strong left bastions in the country, the party has no other option but to stick to Manik’s line of action in Tripura. The party has already taken some damage control measures by removing Mr. Gautam Das from the Editor’s post of “The Daily Deser Katha”, the political mouthpiece of the lefty party in the state. It may be mentioned here that Gautam Das was always under scanner for his alleged relationship with chit fund companies. According to political analysts, an alternate and equivalent group has emerged within the state unit of the left party which may at any moment take the centre stage and also come in the forefront to take the party’s command.

Though the good relationship of the leftist chief minister with the rightist prime minister Narendra Modi is not seen in good eyes, the Karats and company has to be a mere spectator and to digest the rapo building attitude of their colleague in the politburo because any step to anger the CM may lead to backclash in the state unit of the party.

Though the exact reason for the maintenance of close relation with prime minister Modi is not known, Manik Sarkar’s apprehension that  if he remains in the good book of Mr. Modi, the latter may be soft on him whenever the crisis arises for cetre’s intervention in the state’s affairs.

The latest allegation of chief minister Manik Sarkar about the role played by the then Assam Rifles DG Brigadier Panwar to defeat the left in the TTAADC election  in 2000 has further given rise to another controversy which has the potentiality to further put Manik Sarkar in political debacle. The Congress has asked the CM to substantiate the allegation with sufficient evidence within 24 hours .

It may be mentioned here that the chief minster on record alleged the nexus of the Assam Rifles DG with INPT to dismantle the left rule in the TTAADC while addressing an election rally at Khumulwung in connection with the TTAADC election.  Manik Sarkar alleged that the Assam Rifles had assisted the INPT to defeat the left in the 2000 TTAADC election at the behest of Brigadier Panwar, who was the DG of the paramilitary force at that time.

The six days’ party Congress from Tuesday is expected to take steps towards regaining party’s lost ground in the country and strengthening further the stronger areas of the party by withstanding pressures from rightist BJP in the changed political scenario in the country, feels the political analysts.
