Agartala, April 8 (TIWN): A Public Interest Litigation ( PIL) has been filed at High Court of Tripura alleging that the state government has failed in implementing rules for preventing atrocities on animals. The PIL ( WPC PIL -04 – 2015) was filed on February, last . It is mentioned that the rules have been violated across the state. The PIL came for hearing on Tuesday at the division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Subashish Talapatra.
The petitioner Paramita Sen herself argued the case. She complained that “ Prevention of Cruelties to Animals Act , 1960” is not in effect in the state, Transport of animals rules (1978), Slaughter rules (2001) are violated in the state.
The counsel said that during official holidays veterinary hospitals remains closed, medical care to animals are affected, besides there are no rescue homes for street animals. The state government has no mechanisms for cremating the dead animals, as a result the corpse are thrown at water bodies and in open areas polluting the water and environment.
State government, forest department and AMC during hearing failed to give any reply and urged for more time. The court gave them six weeks time and next hearing was fixed on 15 June next
