Udaipur : Housewife in deathbed after brutal attack for dowry

Udaipur,Chandrapur, April 8 (TIWN): Udaipur is becoming the epicenter for ‘tortures on women’ in Tripura, even though Gomati District is headed by a woman District Magistrate since few years.

The recent 10 year girl’s event was not even faded, again another brutal torture on women has been committed.

Ms. Aparna Das (24) has been brutally tortured by her husband Partha Das, her Mother-in-law Namita Das and her sisiter-in-law Sima Das. It has been reported that she was tortured to such extent  that many stitches had to be applied on her body after she was taken to Gomati District Hospital on Tuesday.

After taking her statement police has registered a case against husband Partha Das under the section 498A, IPC in Women Police Station.

Ms. Aparna Das from Shalgarah,Udaipur was married to Partha Das (of Chandrapur) before 6 years. They have a boy of 4 years. But after few months of their marriage she was used to be tortured, both physically and mentally by the family members her law’s house for dowry. She also said that her husband is having an illegal relationship, which is well known by her mother-in-law also.

While talking to TIWN Udaipur correspondent,  Arunima Acharjee (ASI, R.K.Pur Women Police station) said that the police is no more able to arrest her husband Partha Das on the basis of a written complain as  IPC  498A (a criminal law) is no more usable for instant arresting of an accused person without the special permission taken from the court. Now this 498A IPC law has been modified as “NO ARREST UNDER ANTI-DOWRY LAW WITHOUT MEGISTRATE’S NOD”. As a result police can’t arrest Aparna Das’s husband and the other members of his family right now.

Police has to wait till the order comes from the Magistrate.

However if lacklustre Gomati Administration and Police wanted, they could have booked addtional IPC  sections like IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and other IPC sections covering violent crime against  women ( which could lead the immediate arrest of her husband and husband's family.  Not only that Police can call Magistrate in Hospital or victim's location or can goto Magistrate home and can take Magistrate's consent right on the spot to arrest the culprits. But as usual Gomati District's sleepy administration prefers to live in slumber.

The payment of dowries had been prohibited since 1961 in India. But unfortunately after 54 years of passage, society is having invariable attitude towards women.

Ms. Arpita Das is the victim. But she is not a new victim for dowry neither she will be the last in Udaipur.
