AGARTALA / SILCHAR, March 15 (TIWN): After the successful BG(broad gauge) trial run of a diesel engine from Lumding to Silchar on Friday the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is working hard to bring Agartala under the country’s Broad Gauge Network by March 2016. After the introduction of the BG facility one could return from Guwahati to Agartala, capital town of the landlocked State Tripura in eight hours.If NFR sticks to its project schedule, the ongoing work of BG conversion work from Lumding to Agartala via Badarpur would be completed by March 2016. The ambitious railway project, which is also a national project, has 79 major bridges, 340 minor bridges, 28 railway stations and four halt stations, said a NFR source.The commissioning of laying and constructing of Broad Gauge (BG) railway tracks of Mega Block for Kumarghat to Agartala will start from March 2016 and the commissioning of laying and constructing of Broad Gauge (BG) railway tracks of Mega Block for Agartala to Sabroom will start from March 2018, the source added.
Earlier, NFR authorities had informed that, the General Manager of NFR will arrive at Silchar on March 15th. After that on March 16th, an experimental boggy train will move from Silchar to Patharkhola under Nayagao district. This special train will not carry any passengers- says the authorities of North Eastern Frontier Railways (NFR). On the trial run, the General Manager of NFR, Railway officials and media persons will be present. It is to be mentioned that the General Manager will arrive at Silchar to be part of the first experience of the journey.
NFR authorities further informed that the delegations on their way will inaugurate the newly constructed Badarpur railway station.
In the meantime, the line set up of Silchar-Lumbding-Badarpur was completed. Now, the work of foot bridge construction, Station and renovation of the existing parts. The authorities expected that if everything goes according to the prospected plan, the whistle of the train will be hearted by this month.
The source further said that the commissioning of laying and constructing of Broad Gauge (BG) railway tracks of Mega Block for Agartala to Udaipur will start from March 2016. Conversion work of 108 kilometer railway tracks of Mega Block has been already completed out of 228 kilometers. The BG conversion of the Mega Block that started on October 1st 2014 is on right track for its timely completion, the source mentioned.
