AGARTALA, March 8 (TIWN): The 5 day long national level workshop on Science writing/Journalism organized by North East India Centre for Mass Communication and Cultural Research (A Non-Govt. Voluntary Social Organisation) in co-operation with the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India was inaugurated at Agartala Press Club, here today. AK Mukharjee-Pro VC-Tripura (Central) University inaugurated the workshop. The workshop will continue till March 12th.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony AK Mukharjee said that the main objective of the national level workshop is-sharing of experiences about various issues related to hurdles of S and T intervention, socio-economic problems, climate change, pollution etc. and also exchange of views to curb superstition, misbelieve and its aspects in society besides enhancement of science coverage in mass media both in print and electronic towards socio-economic development through inculcation of scientific temper amongst the journalists, writers, social activists of our society, Mukharjee added.
While speaking in the workshop Asset Manager-ONGC-Tripura Assets VP Mahawar said that since superstition, black magic and prejudices amongst the various ethnic communities as well as rural people are still prevalent and posing a major challenge towards socio-economic development in the region, we strongly believe and hope that the mass media and civil society can play a vital role to motivate the younger generation as well as common people introducing different science movements/ activities through S and T communication and intervention, Mahawar mentioned.
Professor Silajit Guha, H.O.D of Journalism and Mass Communication, Sikkim Central University and many other dignitaries were present in the workshop.
