AGARTALA, Oct 7 (TIWN): A massive protest erupted in Kumaraghat's Ken Road area after a 55-year-old laborer, Swapan Debnath, died after being hit by a train. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who are demanding a railway overbridge in the area.
The protesters, comprising residents of seven nearby villages, blocked the railway tracks, bringing train services to a halt. The blockade was later lifted after local authorities assured them of taking steps to address their demands.
Locals have been demanding a railway overbridge in the area for years, citing the growing number of accidents. This is the eighth death in the area due to train-related accidents since 2011.
The protesters have warned of intensifying their agitation if their demands are not met. A meeting is scheduled to be held at Kumaraghat railway station to discuss the issue.
