UDAIPUR, Jan 4 (TIWN): Protesting against the newly introduced hit-and-run related law, vehicle drivers protested across the nation. In Tripura also protests are being held but accusations raised against the police for not permitting them to organize rallies. On Thursday the situation heated up after during a protest organized by vehicle drivers, that was not permitted by police, some unknown people attacked the rally. After the incident, protesters raised slogans against police authority and asked, whether they were citizens of India or not. The truck drivers’ protest against the new law on hit-and-run cases has been continuing in the whole country. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which replaces the Indian Penal Code, stipulates up to 10 years imprisonment or a fine of Rs 7 lakh for drivers causing serious road accidents and fleeing the scene without informing the police or administration.
Over 2,000 petrol pumps across western and northern India ran dry on Tuesday night as people flocked to get their tanks filled.
