Agartala, January 25 (TIWN): To extend the existing fire services for combating any fire incidents in Tripura, 8 more new fire stations mostly in rural remote areas are likely to be opened within next six months and nine more fire stations are likely to be set up during the financial year (FY) 2015-15, said a highly placed source in Fire Service Department.

“At present a total of 36 fire stations are exist in Tripura. Out of them, 14 fire stations are functioning from temporary structures while construction of new building for seven fire stations is in progress. Efforts are being taken for the upgradation of remaining temporary structures to pucca building”, said the source.

The source further said, “The works for upgradation of fire service training centre with modern machineries and equipments have been undertaken.”

Recently, a total of 5 Foam-cum-DCP (Dry Chemical Powder) fire tenders and 15 water tenders with high pressure pump (specialized for Oil and Metal fire) have been purchased by the department while more four multipurpose Foam-cum-DCP fire tenders are being purchased this year along with 25 other fire appliances, added the source.

According to the source, constructions of 16 Type-III staff quarters have been completed in 2014 while constructions for more 24 type-II quarters are in progress.

With the existing 2 Water Mist fire tenders, the department also planned to buy three more Water Mist fire systems including high pressure pumps soon, added the source.

At last asked about the Water Browser, “This modern fire appliance has been purchased recently for combating fire in high rise building. It can be used separately also in case of other major fire. Its water holding capacity is 12000 liters. One more Water Browser will be purchased this year.”
