Pre-disaster plan: 38 varieties of rescue equipments made available in Tripura

Agartala, January 25 (TIWN): Laying importance to the advance initiative for disaster management, altogether 38 varieties of rescue materials have been available in different districts, sub divisions and 12 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) camps in Tripura, said state officer of disaster management- Sarat Das.

He further said, “With the assistance of NEIST Jorhat, Public Works Department (PWD) has started implementing microzonation works in capital city Agartala.”

“A vast number of staffs of Police, TSR and Fire Service departments have already been trained while the department also aimed to cover a good number of engineers, doctors and journalists under the training shortly”, said Das.

“The state is very vulnerable to earthquakes as it is situated on seismic zone-V and has higher probability of occurrence of big earthquakes. Keeping this point in mind, the state government has been taking several initiatives to manage in case of any natural disaster or calamity”, informed Secretary of Revenue Department- Punit Agarwal during an exhibition at UK Academy ground.

During the exhibition to mark Statehood Day, several equipments of disaster management were displayed by the department.

According to the sources, the capital of Tripura is having high risk potential in any major earthquake with possibilities of massive collateral damage in the form of casualties and mass injuries. The recent survey found that the city is to be uniquely positioned to render massive physical damage to the residents of the city in any case of major natural calamities like earthquakes above 6.5 magnitude on the Richter Scale.
