AGARTALA, January 3 (TIWN): The first border haat in Tripura, a market facility on zero line of border along Indo-Bangla international border is likely to be inaugurated by January 13, next at Srinagar in south Tripura district. To review the overall preparation, Additional District Magistrate, Feni of Bangladesh along with concerned high officials would visit to Indo-Bangla border haat at Sabroom on tomorrow. During the visit, a vital joint-meeting of the Border Haat management Committee of both countries will be held at Srinagar, in an official statement, District Magistrate, South Tripura informed it. According to the statement, the members of the Border Haat Joint Committee, concerned officials, elected public representatives, PRI members and other dignitaries would attend the meeting. The members of the Border Haat Management Committee are; Addl. DM & Collector, South Tripura, SDPO of Sabroom- H. Francis Darlong, Superintendent of Customs, Sabroom- Lila Phokhan, the Commanding Officer of Srinagar BOP and chairman of Poangbari Panchayat Samiti- Badal Sen.
The other dignitaries and officials, those will attend the vital meeting are; the Sabhadipati of South Tripura Zilla Parishad, MLA Rita Kar (Majumder), the Director of Industries and Commerce Department, Superintendent of police (SP), South district, General Manager of TIDC, Commandant of 60 Bn BSF, Rukhia, SDM of Sabroom, BDO of Poangbari RD Block, DGM of TSECL, Executive Engineers of PWD, Sabroom and DWS, Belonia, District Information Officer of ICA, Belonia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Srinagar Outpost, BAC chairman of Poangbari RD Block and Pradhan of Krishnagar Gram Panchayat.
According to the source, the construction of border haat has been completed, now the people are eagerly waiting for its inauguration to experience the trade of border haat. The border haat has been set up at Srinagar bordering area under Krishnapur Panchayat at a cost of Rs. 2.57 crore.
The source further said that the Srinagar border haat of the state has been established on 37.5 sq meter Bangladesh’s land and 37.5 sq meter land on Indian soil. Altogether 50 persons (25 from India and 25 from Bangladesh) will be allowed to carry out their businesses. In the border haat, altogether 8 market sheds and an official building have been created so far.
The Srinagar border haat is the second border haat in North-East after Meghalaya. People living within a distance of 5 km along the Indo-Bangla border are allowed to selling goods in the border haat. The facility was opened with an attempt to boost the bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh.
