AGARTALA, Jan 16 (TIWN): TSF which earlier announced to take legal action against the alleged tortures on the ST students in Agartala by traffic Police, has called on a 12 hours strike in Tripura tomorrow that is January 17, 2022. Addressing the media at Agartala Press Club TSF leaders announced the Strike. “After days of passage, no action was taken against the brutal attacks, torture on students by Traffic police. This is a serious issue for the entire student community. Indigenous students were harassed and we believe that it is a total failure of the State Govt. Just a month back, TSR jawans were brutally killed by their own colleagues. Such brutalities now must meet the end”.

TSF members earlier met SP with demands of immediate action against the accused traffic but so far no action was taken.

It has been known, the students who were allegedly tortured by traffic police, have been put under false cases.

In the background of the strike announcement, TSF said, “This is most probably a way to harass the victims. If it is true, we will take action. There is a special provision in the constitution that ensures no official should torture or harass, SC and ST. It might be targeted harassment. We will give full support to the victims”.

The allegation of Police harassment on two youths was raised after they were arrested. Yesterday, while the convoy of the Chief Minister was on its way to the Circuit House area, two youths were found stuck in the road due to technical problems in their car. The police officials allegedly beat up the youths, arrested them. Moreover, a boy was beaten up in his private part.

TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Debbarman has also condemned the alleged attack.

All the opposition parties including CPI-M, TMC, Congress demanded action against traffic police who harassed the students.
