AGARTALA, Oct 14 (TIWN): Amid tight security arrangements, marking the formal conclusion of biggest festival- Durga Puja, the immersion worship (Vijaya Dashami) to Goddess Durga has been started in Tripura. To mark this occasion, teary eyed devotees bade an emotional farewell to the idols of goddess Durga. People from different community thronged Durga puja pandals to offer their tributes to the goddess on the last day of the five-day long festivity. Married women decked in the ritualistic red-and-white sarees marked the event with the customary "Sindoor Khela" or smearing each other and the idols with red vermilion to prepare the goddess and her clan for their long journey to home, as dhaaks (traditional drums) played on in the background. The unique part about this year's Durga Puja is that the ninth and 10th day – Maha Navami and Vijaya Dashami – fall on the same day. Devotees offered sweets to the goddess and prayed for peace and prosperity of their families.
There will be a festive look on the bank of the river Howrah at Dashamighat and other water bodies, with spirited chants of "Bolo Durga Mai Ki Jai" adding to the fervour. Children, the young and the elderly would join hands to slowly put the idols into the water as they wished for her return next year.
