UDAIPUR, December 16 (TIWN): An Imam of East Gokulpur Mosque raped a Muslim housewife living near the mosque on Monday. And soon after the incident, CPI(M) Pradhan of the East Gokulpur Panchayat is pressuring the Woman Police Station not to start investigation. It is learnt that the Imam namely Abdul Kuber raped the housewife Khatuna Bibi(19)(changed name) in the absence of her husband . Today the victim and her husband lodged a case in the Udaipur Woman Police Station and police registered a case( Case no-145/14) under Section 448/376 of IPC. In the afternoon when the rapist Imam Abdul Number was produced before the court of the First Class Judicial Magistrate, the Magistrate Mridul Chakraborty sent the guilty Imam to 14 days of Jail Custody. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) ruled East Gokulpur Panchayat leaders alongwith other local CPI(M) leaders are now creating problems in the investigation .On Monday morning a group of CPI(M) leaders led by the Pradhan even asked the police not to conduct medical test of the victim and the accused. Officer In Charge of Woman Police Station Madhuri Debbarma told the press," Pradhan has been threatening the victim to withdraw the case and even telling us to stop investigation saying that the case will be decided in Panchayat Sabha. However, we will not bend down under any pressure. " But the CPI(M) leaders are now protecting the rapist instead of the victim.

It is shameful that CPI(M) party often protests against any incident of rape occurring in West Bengal and Delhi but here in East Gokulpur Panchayat area the elected Pradhan itself pressurizing the police not to do any investigation in this case and also putting pressuring on the victim to  withdraw the case. The people of the Islam community are shocked at this attitude.
         Meanwhile, the rapist Imam is a resident of Rauth under Karimganja District in Assam. Unwilling to reveal their identity many of the local villagers alleged that ever since Abdul Kuber joined as Imam, he has been involved in various illegal activities. And the rape of the house wife indicates that he is a shame to Islam religion. People of all communities demand exemplary punishment in this case.
