AGARTALA, March 20 (TIWN): In Dharmanagar's  Yaqubnagar border, a Bangladeshi citizen has been killed in BSF 166 Bn firing allegedly when some Indian and Bangladeshi cattle smugglers with weapons attacked on BSF at the fencing area. DIG Rajeev Dua said that both Indian and Bangladeshi nationals had come close to the fencing and when BSF wanted to stop them, severe attacks took place on them and in defence, they had to fire. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Roop  East Batuli Ps, Juri Dist Moulabi Bazar. "Who will come at night 3 am with weapons near fencing unless s/he having a ill intention ? Self-defence is even a citizen's right. So, can't to defend ourselves ?", said the BSF officer over the death of the Bangladeshi national.

The security personnel also mentioned about massive cattle smuggling in those borders.

BSF Press Note : A border incident took place where one Bangladesh national was killed on border. Shri Rajiv Kumar Dua, DIG BSF Panisagar briefed that on the night intervening 19/20 March 2021, approx 22-25 smugglers, both from India and Bangladesh, attempted a large number of cattle smuggling from BSF BOP Yakubnagar at Indo-Bangladesh border. BSF sentryry on duty was attacked with sharp edged weapons,Lathies  and stones were also pelted upon him. sensing danger to his life, the BSF jawan fired 2 rounds of pump action gun(PAG), a non lethal weapon, which  hit to a notorious smuggler of Bangladesh namely Bappa Miya which proved to be fatal and he succumbed to his injuries. Shri Rajiv Kumar Dua, DIG emphasized that dominating the Indo-Bangladesh border, day  and night, into all kind of adverse climatic conditions, infact, is a very challenging and arduous task which BSF performs  tirelessly. There are several occasions when smugglers/ criminals, on being detected, resorted to use of force to fulfill their nefarious design. The dead body of the deceased will be handed over to Bangladesh authorities, on a proper receit, after observing the necessary formalities.
