Malaria’s horrifying spread on the hilly areas: ICMR team arrived to visit the affected areas

AGARTALA, December 10 (TIWN): Malaria again spreading its horrifying grasp in the hilly areas of Tripura. Seven more malaria patients of Mitrahampara under Nonacherra ADC village have been admitted to Teliamura Rural Hospital. It is to be mentioned here that the fresh case came to the limelight when SDM, Teliamura, Bimbisar Bhattacharjee went to Gadhai Mungkuri village to attend a medical camp. The medical camp was organized at Mitrahampara under Nonacherra ADC. After the primary check up in the camp, it was found that the conditions of the patients are critical and was immediately shifted to the Teliamura Hospital. The patient comprises of a child also.

Other than that, according to the official figures as many as 450 Malaria PF cases were reported from Gandacherra within November 20 to December 9. While 60-80 malaria cases were reported from Longtharai subdivision during the period. Though the report of death was not recorded yet from anywhere.

However, worried by the havoc of deadly disease malaria, a special team of Indian Council of Medical Research visiting the tribal hamlets. Among them a research fellow of ICMR- Ishpita Paul Chowdhury will visit Girachandrapara, Bhagirathpara, Wansapara and Dalapati of Gandacherra subdivision and Purba Malidhar, Paschim Malidhar, Natinmanu, harimonipara of Longtarai valley subdivision. On the other hand, ICMAR team headed by Deputy Director, Dr. A.K. Mahapatra is scheduled to arrive at Ambassa and will stay for ten days to study the in-depth reccurence of malaria in Dhalai district.

The fresh outbreak has caused concern after unprecedented malaria epidemic in the State caused havoc from June to August this year... Alarmed at the suddenly rise in malaria cases (PF) in different villages of Gandacherra  subdivision, the Sub Divisional authority has asked the SDMO to arrange delta metrin to eliminate anopheles Minmus on priority basis.
Anopheles Minimus, which remains active in round the year in the subdivision is the main carrier of the deadly PF case. And, it is DDT resistant, according to health officials.
SDM Bhashkar Dasgupta, who held a meeting in the conference hall of the SADM office to review the situation, laid stress on spraying of delta metrin on war footing to bring the malaria situation under control in the subdivision.

 The state government has set in action second generation integrated mosquito management through fogging. Medical teams were sent mostly to interior places from where new cases were reported. Investigation of blood samples in the outbreak this year confirmed mosquito Anopheles Baimaias the reason for spread of the disease. It was put under control through relentless efforts of health department doctors, paramedical staff, volunteers and participation of many NGOs. Shortage of effective medicines and failure to secure them from pharmaceutical companies aggravated the situation. However, the intervention of the National Health Mission helped in many ways.
