AGARTALA, December 8 (TIWN): Acting on a tip off the Agartala East PS Police today seized a huge quantity of illegal ration rice from Agartala Motorstannd area. Police arrested the driver of the vehicle.

At least 22 sacks of PDS rice were seized today from Agartala Motorstand area. Reportedly the vehicle was carrying a huge amount of ration rice was moving from Agartala Maharajganj Bazar towards Bonikko Chowmuhni area, but the East PS police led by SI Sukhuram Debbarma acting on a tip off seized the PDS rice hoarded illegally on an auto-truck (TR-01 V-1628)  

However Police arrested the driver of the vehicle Swapan Saha. But no further information could be received so far, said Police.

It is mentionable here that, the smuggling of illegal ration rice is a major problem in Tripura, especially in the capital city Agartala. So far the SDM (Sadar) and the city police had seized as many bags illegal ration rice from the local markets especially from Agartala Maharajganj Bazar that has now become the smuggling hub. Whereas on the other this has lead the PDS customers to get deprive from getting the PDS items from the ration shops.
