Agartala, Dec 8 (TIWN): Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the proposed Feni Bridge will be completed within January 2015 according to State PWD offficials.
VKS Infratech, a Delhibased consultant is trying their best to develop communication and trade routes with neighboring Bangladesh by using Chittagong and Ashuganj ports. According to State PWD, a team of eight engineers and technicians are going to Bangladesh for surveying the other side of the alignment was under consideration of the Department of Industries and Commerce. Initial proposals for construction of the bridge was prepared with provisions of four lane road on the bridge with a total length of around 2 Km approach road on both sides. The Government of India would be paying for developing the road on Bangladesh side of the bridge where a stretch of around 700 mt would still need development to meet the international standards. The bridge’s approach road would be connected inside Tripura to the National Highway 44 and the nearest railway station, linking the entire region with the roadways and waterways of Bangladesh. The central Government and the state government giving priority for successful inauguration of the Feni Bridge as early as possible.
The bridge is expected to draw a significant segment of the proposed economic corridor through India, Bangladesh, China and Myanmar. The proposal for construction of Feni Bridge was started with an estimated expense of Rs 77 crore among other projects for higher bilateral understanding between India and Bangladesh.
If the bridge is constructed, not only Tripura the entire NE region will be beneficial by way of using Chittagong Port in Bangladesh because it is only 72 km away from Sabroom town. As per the plan drawn by the higher ups, initially the bilateral trade will begin through Dashimighat after long 20 years wait.
