Agartala, Dec 7 (TIWN): In a tragic road mishap, at least 12 passengers sustained severe injuries on their persons at Madhavbari area under Ranirbazar police station, here today. Among the injured persons, condition of a 40-year-old CRPF jawan- Rajgir Singh is slated to be critical and he was shifted to GBP hospital immediately, said police.

A bus loaded with passenger bearing number- TR01-1366 while proceeding towards Teliamura from Agartala, another passenger bus bearing the number- TR01-B-1331 coming from opposite direction Chawmanu to Agartala collided head on at Madhavbari area. As a result, at least 12 passengers of both vehicles have received grievous injuries on their persons. All of the injured passengers were taken to Jirania hospital immediately, said police.

After receiving the information, a vast contingent of police rushed to the place of occurrence and seized both of the vehicles. The drivers and co-drivers of both vehicles escaped from the place after meeting road mishap.

It is to be mentioned here; Tripura Traffic Police and Tripura Police Department have been facing a very tough time to prevent the number of road accidents in the state which are allegedly claiming life of several people for last few months. The numbers of road mishaps are alarmingly increased in the state for last few months but the traffic police department is surprisingly playing silent role instead of taking proper initiative over the road accident issue. According to a statistic of Transport Department, on an average Tripura records three road accidents and a death each day.

Though, the number of vehicles increased in Tripura, but the road status in terms of widening and bigger lining is remained same as it was earlier. Moreover, rush and reckless driving, overloading by the passenger carrying vehicles, insufficient knowledge of traffic rules and regulations are often cause road mishaps in the different parts of the state.
