AGARTALA, Dec 21 (TIWN): The miscreants attacked Senior Photographer Prangopal Acharjee with sharp sticks. They were holding iron rods and other sharp weapons during the attack. Another reporter from The Rising Bangla Channel was also injured.

Freedom of the press is a fundamental right that the government itself can not violate but sadly it has become the most violated right in Tripura in recent years.

The risk factor in the profession of journalism is increasing rapidly in the state. They face violence and intimidation for practicing their fundamental rights. The range of threats they are getting include kidnapping, murder, online harassment, forced detention, and torture. As they are working for the good of society hence they must be protected against crimes. One can not imagine a profound democracy without the Media.

While addressing the media, The Assembly of Journalists expressed grave concern over the misuse of the law by the Government of Tripura to intimidate journalists and curtail press freedom.

On the contrary, just after a few hours of the incident, our terrible Chief Minister went to attend the state conference of the Forum for Development and Protection of Media Community where Deb asked the reporters to ‘forget about past’.

Inside halls, merciless Deb is giving speeches to journalists while outside, he is attacking them, violating their rights.
