AGARTALA, Nov 15 (TIWN): Tripura CM Biplab Deb’s ‘Tughlaki’ decision of shifting 1971’s Indo-Pak war memorial Cannon, Artillery gun from Agartala’s City Center Post Office Chowmuhani triggered massive public resentments as this act amounts to dishonoring History, also hurting public sentiment. Although the decision was taken to beautify the area, but public have rejected the idea, asking the Govt to reinstall those cannons. Albert Ekka park is located far from the city, where hardly people go and these cannons historically are located in Agartala Post Office Chowmuhani which are seen, cherished by the people of the city everyday. This decision has hit the public sentiments and mass resentments have been brewed among the public. In many aspects, the Tripura Govt is just walking in the opposite direction of the tradition.
It is after around 50 years, that the Tripura government in the name of Rs 4.83 crore project has taken this decision to shift the 1971 India-Pakistan war memorial, resulting in the creation of Bangladesh. This cannon was captured from Pakistan during the war and from then this memorial has turned a part of the everyday city life.
Agartala City's various places are left unmaintained, whereas Post Office Chowmuhani is already bearing a beautiful look but by removing the base of the beauty, the Govt has not only destroyed the beauty but also have hurt the public sentiments. Public have demanded reinstallation of the memorial.
Already Agartala SMART city concept has become a joke, when in 5 minutes rain, the city goes under water and when hospitals are reeling under oxygen shortage, patients are dying as Govt stopped various medicine supplies, the SMART city hypocrisy is not helping the people, although raising funds for the BJP Party through contractors.
