Agartala, December 2 (TIWN): One of the major objectives of National Health Mission is to reduce maternal and neo natal mortality by promoting institutional delivery and making quality maternal care services available during pregnancy, delivery and immediate post partum period, said Director of NHM, Sandeep N. Mahatme while addressing in a seminar on “Ideal Delivery ROOM, ANC, PNC and FBNC Ward” at Pragna Bhawan, here today.

In this regard, a special intervention has been taken to strengthen the delivery points to provide better quality health services, which is public health to reduce maternal and child death and to reduce over burden of tertiary care centre. Therefore the idea of “Ideal Delivery ROOM, ANC, PNC and FBNC Ward” has been initiated under Bishalgarh Sub Divisional Hospital as Pilot Project. The objectives of this intervention are to increase Institutional Deliveries to 95% by increasing institutional delivery by focusing on PULL factors, reducing over burden of Tertiary care centers like State hospitals, AGMC and IGM and prevent deaths as deliveries would be attracted due to better quality services, . Mahatme added.

This special intervention has been initiated in the month of June 2014, with a gap assessment by constituting of four members team. The concept was also shared with Government of India during NPCC meeting and hugely appreciated. Now the concept has been nationalized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Tripura becomes the pioneer of the said intervention. But due to severe outbreak of malaria during June to August progress was very slow. Initially 24 facilities have been chosen and extended up to 30 Nos facilities throughout the State, he mentioned.

After implementation of the concept at all the identified facilities, the same will be replicated in all facilities having a good number of case loads during the year 2015-16. Approximately for each facility to bring qualitative improvements Rs 4.50 lakh will be involved from different sources of fund, he added.
