Modi calls for better tourism in North-East

AGARTALA, December 2 (TIWN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the development of tourism in the North east. Modi was addressing the bee storming gathering of the public at Udaipur Palatana campus after the inauguration of the Palatana OTPC Unit – II.

Focusing on the tourism in the North Eastern states of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that, the North east is the best place for tourists attraction, therefore it needs to be developed. “So many tourists are coming here from other parts of the country and abroad. This is the best destination for tourists. But for that we require connectivity. Unless we have road connectivity, rail connectivity, air connectivity, it is very difficult to develop tourism”, said PM Modi today addressing the gathering at Palatana.

Addressing the gathering at Palatana today, PM Modi also said that, “our goal is 24X7, 365 days power supply and to achieve that we are focusing on the North Eastern states.”

“We have decided to set up 6 new agricultural colleges in this area. The North East region states could be the capital of Organic Agriculture in the country”, He said.

Earlier inaugurating the Nagaland’s biggest annual Hornbill festival Modi said, “For the development of tourism, Rs. 28, 000 crore will be provided for a new railway-line project and 14 new railway lines.” He said, as energy is a lifeline for development, Rs. 5, 000 crore has been sanctioned for the north eastern region power system improvement project for 6 states, including Nagaland.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday dedicated to the nation the second unit of the 726 MW gas based power plant at Palatana in Tripura. a host of dignitaries from India and Bangladesh, which facilitated transportation of heavy machineries to the plant, were present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister and his entourage reached Agartala by a special aircraft around 1:47 PM and they flew to Palatana by air force Choppers. Tripura Governor PB Achariya and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar accompanied Mr. Modi to the power plant site.

The programme at Palatana marked the end of the Prime Minister’s 3 days hectic tour to the 4 North Eastern states.
