Modi seeks Manik’s note on his success in combating terrorism

Agartala, Dec 1 (TIWN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought a note from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on the success of the state in combating extremism while interacting with the council of ministers in the state guest house Agartala on Monday.

Addressing media after meeting Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that Modi wanted his help to make some surrendered extremists as ‘peace ambassador’ for insurgency riddled parts of the country.

“He was curious to know about our success in combating terrorism and I have highlighted three main strategies of our government to him. First, we allow security forces to go for anti-insurgency operation without using arms unnecessarily and massive development plan along with countering terrorists in both ideologically and politically following by mobilizing the family members of the extremists and common people to bring them back in normal life,” Sarkar explained.

He also said that Prime Minister has also enquired about the life and activities of the surrendered extremists in Tripura and whether they are become beneficial for the state to maintain peace.

“I firmly made him clear that unless they helped us it would have not been easy for us to get success at this level. Prime Minister then wished to get the recorded voice of the surrendered extremists of the sufferings and wrongdoing in jungle life along with a note from me to use it as a tool to contain extremism in other parts of the country,” Sarkar attributed.

“He insisted me to be remained present in CMs meeting on Dec 7 in New Delhi and if possible to bring the note of administrative strategy to fight against terrorism, I assured him to try my level best,” he added.

According to Manik Sarkar, the meeting of PM with council of ministers was successful and he hopes it will yield a better result for development of the state as well as for the nation as a whole.

Sarkar in his memorandum to Modi demanded his intervention on nine issues that includes to expedite the setting up of ONGC’s proposed 1.3 MT per annum production capacity Urea plant in North Tripura, setting up of IIM, IIT and Central Agricultural University in Tripura, up-gradation and expediting the development of road, rail, air and telecom connectivity and to pursue transshipment facility in Ashuganj and Chittagong port of Bangladesh.

Sarkar also demanded to handing over 115.70 acres of land under occupation of Ministry of Defence near capital complex for setting up health and educational institutions and reclamation of another 10 acres of land under occupation of Assam Rifles in Agartala for building an international sports complex
