AGARTALA, Oct 8 (TIWN): Formed in an emergency time after Chief Minister Biplab Deb's threat to media and severe attacks on journalists, Tripura Assembly of Journalists' continues battle to save the 'Freedom of Press' in the state. In a meeting held in Teliamura Subdivision's Press Club over safety of journalists, PTI journalist Jayanta Bhattacharjee said, "Tripura CM has delivered such a statement against which, we did not take any major step yet but we just condemned it because such threats from the hierarchy can't be allowed to expand in future. We want journalists support to us because as journalists, our first duty is to the public and to raise the voice of the public is our job. On that day, CM targeting a section of media said, he will not forgive them. What have we done, which can not be forgiven ? Is journalism equivalent to a crime by broadcasting public agonies ?"

CM on 11th September in a program said that he will never forgive the journalists who are writing over excitedly about Covid situation and confusing people, history will never forgive them. A day after this statement, journalists across the state who condemned his words faced severe attacks from the party activists. This made Biplab Deb viral again in national platform. Media houses and journalists from every corner of the country started condemned his statement and questioned on democracy under his regime.
