AGARTALA, November 29 (TIWN): The Youth Wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Tripura state committee gheraoed the Vidyut Bhavan today demanding immediate roll back of power tariff hike.
A member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) said that common people's burden increased due to Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) power tariff hike by 5.69%
Behind the hike in the power tariff reason mentioned as per TSECL are:-
1.Due to increase of Natural Gas Price in National/International level.
2.Due to increase of Power Purchase Cost from outside Central Sector Project.
3.Due to increase of Operational and Maintenance cost.
The Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) mentioned that “under the Central Electricity Act” revision of power tariff is mandatory for each financial year, the member said.
But it is not mandatory to hike power tariff. It depends on the ground realities, the ground reality in the state government has not taken any initiative to reduce the transmission loss, collection of bills from consumers, snapping the legal connections, etc. The state government is increasing every year power tariff without considering the above mentioned matter. But the CPI M) led state government always raised its voice while the central government hiked anything, the member said.
People are fed up with the acute unemployment problem, high price rise, destructive health services and broken educational system in the state.
Without considering the peoples economical condition, the decision of power tariff hike is not only unjustified, but an anti-people decision, the member said.
