AGARTALA, July 23 (TIWN): This is not first time that using Bangladesh's port, Tripura has received commodities but such systems had started from UPA-II Govt at Centre and Left Govt in Tripura in 2010-11 centering Palatana project, but on that time the Ashuganj port was used. Today, after commodities arrived in Tripura by road, followed by boarding of them in Chottogram port, Chief Minister Biplab Deb said that it is a historical event. For Chottogram port-route to Tripura, it is however new. The project started in 2016 to benefit the Northeast India. CM Biplab Deb said that it will boost economy as now the waterway is opened for business with less costs. Addressing media, CM Biplab Deb said, "Both countries will be benefited by this new route. Tripura will not stop now amid monsoon also, as this route is opened. In total, for water-ways there are 3 routes".

CM further mentioned, "Earlier nobody could imagine how to use waterways for Tripura" and this statement again is opposed to the historical data.

The celebration was not as per expectation as the commodities did not reach in Tripura by ship directly to Sonamura via Gomati river, as promised by CM Biplab Deb earlier. Still, this move may usher business for Northeast India through Tripura-Route, the state, which was marked as "South East Asia" Gateway.
