AGARTALA, March 26 (TIWN): In absence of leadership in Tripura Police as newly appointed DGP Amitabha Ranjan refused to join under a motormouth CM even after being appointed as DGP 2 months back, so without a full time DGP, some sections of Tripura Police continue to function as a rogue force. Since yesterday, Police in various places attacked mercilessly with sticks to innocent public ranging from Bank ATM workers, Grocery vendors, essential commodities workers, even beaten poor rickshaw pullers to homeless people without any warnings. Today in a Press Meet Tripura’s senior Journalists blasted Police DIG GK Rao on this rouge, high handed behavior of police when essential services are supposed to function during 21 days lockdown.

Journalists cited how police randomly have beaten in last 36 hours police have randomly beaten public even who are holding essential commodities licenses. Police have accepted that it was extreme to harass common men and thus have taken certain decisions.After media criticism, Govt of Tripura has directed State Police to stop public harassment just. 

A high official level meeting was held where it was discussed, why because of rules breakers all the common men will be suffering ? When on yesterday it was seen that even Govt employees or traders are harassed, lathi-charged, today it was under control. Debasish Basu, Secretary of Health and Family Welfare has stated that Govt urged all the offices  to provide house identity card and also Associations will be giving a pass then and then it will be issued by SDM. It was directed that no commodity bearers should be harassed and obviously, those who are coming out unnecessarily will not be allowed to roam.

On the other side, ATM money bearers were brutally attacked by police unnecessarily and they have stopped giving service as a result. It has raised question on police’s play again reminding Madhav Bari like brutal trend of police whenever Home Dept gives them free hand to control law and order.
