AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, March 25 (TIWN): Once again Tripura Police have failed to avoid controversy after videos came out where police are randomly beating market goers, even hospital goers, fruit sellers, journalists on Day-1 of lockdown. Police’s job whereas in other states to break any gathering of multiple person, but in Tripura, State Police misused power by beating even 50 above age’s people carrying vegetables or gas cylinder. Hawkers, food sellers and specially morning market goers faced highest troubles. Sources said, in other sub-divisions the situation was little better whereas in Agartala even journalists were not pardoned who are playing vital role to send a positive message about the Govt and its administration. However, this is not the isolated incident in whole country, as Delhi Police Commissioner S.N. Shrivastava on Wednesday admitted that he has received several complaints about misbehaviour by policemen during the lockdown. However, he issued guidelines through an audio statement and asked them to be more careful.
Lathi-charges had to be imposed on common men who violated the lockdown protocols.
To avoid gathering’s chances police reportedly kept strict eyes on the public movement and without papers no one was allowed to go anywhere.
Lockdown was necessitated due to massive outbreak of Corona-Virus in Tripura.
It was complained that public are not allowed to go the markets, even medical shops created chaos in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced nationwide three weeks lockdown starting from Tuesday midnight. All states and union territories will come under its purview.
He said this is an essential step to fight coronavirus decisively.
