CAG report unearths Rs. 1.5 crore scam : Inefficient officials incurred a deliberate revenue loss of Rs. 1.5 crore to Govt

KAMALPUR, November 7 (TIWN) : The inefficiency of the Officials has caused a great loss to the revenue collection of the State Govt. during 2004-05 to 2012-13 in Sales tax, Vat Tax, leviable interest, penalty and Aditional Sales Tax amounting a total loss of 1,51,3800. The loss in Sales Tax /VAT Tax is 60,30000 rupees ; in leviable interest 51,16,000 rupees; in penalty 38,12,000 rupees and in Additional Tax 1,80,000 rupees. All these facts has revealed in the report of CAG (Report 1 of 2014 of Govt. of Tripura).In the report, the CAG summed up that “ concealment of turnover by the dealers, incorrect application of rates and non submission of audited balance sheet which escaped notice of the assessing authorities resulted in short levy of Sales Tax/ VAT of 60.30 lakh, leviable interest interest of 51.16 lakh, penalty of 38.12 lakh and Additional Sales Tax of 1.80 lakh.”

This loss and irregularities came out during the test-chek from May 2012 to April 2013 in the offices of the five Superintendent of Taxes namely Charge-1, Agartala, Charge IV, Agartala, Charge VI, Agartala, Charge VII, Agartala and Udaipur.

The CAG reported the whole matter to the Govt. in September, 2013 but with no action from Govt so far.
