UDAIPUR, November 1 (TIWN): Udaipur Municipal Council and Radhakishore police were alleged of their partial role during demolition drive on illegal encroachments in New Town Road and Central Road area. Throughout the day both UMC and R K Pur police acted like bully on poor businessmen in some cases but neither UMC nor police dared to remove some illegally occupied places because of political influence and affluence. In the evening businessmen gheraoed Executive Officer N R Das and O C R.K.Pur police station for nearly one hour and under pressure from all corners both the authorities were compelled to bend down drive against illegal occupiers.

As per earlier notification UMC and police jointly started clearing of illegally occupied footpaths from N T Road and Central Road from 1pm. The businessmen complained that they requested the UMC and Police to give them one hour time. But the hyper interested labourers of Udaipur Municipal Council, with out any provocation, started to break the frontier parts of many shops and that suddenly made the situation worse.

Within a few seconds the police too came to the spot with sophisticated equipments to wipe out the temporary sheds and verandas of permanent shops. In protests businessmen blocked N T Road couple of times. But as thecpolice too came in large numbers businessmen could do nothing.

However, UMC did nothing with some of the shops located in Shitala Bari area and at this the businessmen grew furious and demanded that same thing should be done with them too. At this some labourers of UMC damaged products of some renowned shops which only made the situation from bad to worse. To control the situation SP Gomati,  Sankar Debnath, SDPO Udaipur Ratan Kumar Das and Executive Officer of UMC N R Das rushed to the spot and assured that adequate compensation to those businessmen whose stored products were damaged.

       At 7.30pm the businessmen gheraod O. C. R K Pur P S and Executive Officer N R Das for about one hour demanding that extermination process must be stopped immediately unless the police and UMC act impartially. Under united protests from the businessmen both police and UMC had to step down. Ultimately it was decided that with in a day or two a meeting will be held between the UMC and Merchant Association. However, throughout the day a tensed situation prevailed in Udaipur due to the partial attitude of police and UMC.
