As no action taken in Durga puja money extortion cases, one more truck driver on verges of death  after beaten by club members in Kali Puja

AGARTALA, Oct 27 (TIWN): As no action was taken against Durga puja organizing clubs during Durga puja season and various trucks were hijacked, locked for many days demanding donation at the North Tripura, which fueled vegetable and fruits market prices at their best in Laxmi puja time, thus similar tortures are going on centering the Kali puja.

A truck driver was left severely injured after he denied to give “chanda” to Kali puja organizing clubs. Later his body was recovered from the truck and hospitalized. The video is viral in social media.

How money extortion turned markets miserable in Laxmi puja, Read report here : As money extortion rows didn’t allow many vehicles to pass through the national highway, specially in the North Tripura, skyrocketing prices were reported from fruit markets in Laxmi puja. Many businessmen alleged in the Gol Bazar Agartala that various fruit carrying trucks were unable to come in time as clubs snatched the vehicle key demanding “chanda” for Durga puja.Kumarghat, Manughat are the places where the money extortion was on peak.A businessman in Gol Bazar said, for long 3 days his items were halted to pass by the club members demanding thousands of rupees. Even after requesting, the club members didn’t agree.Another businessman said, not only money extortion, few drivers were beaten by club members.The rates of the fruits were reported from Gol Bazar : Mangoes are sold at Rs. 300, Sweet lemons are at 100 for piece, Orange : 100 at 4 piece, Apple Rs. 80 kilo, Pomegranate Rs 200 kilo.Indeed all fruits are selling at skyrocketing prices ahead of Laxmi puja. Laxmi puja to be held on October 13.Economic crisis has hit the state whereas demand in Laxmi puja market at low.Creation of Laxmi idols is less this year in compare to the last year, said the artists who were busy to make Goddess Laxmi idols at the outskirts of Agartala.The artists told media as the market is down, so demand is less. People’s economic condition is not stable and thus the stock of Laxmi idols to be less in compare to the last year, said the artists.
