AGARTALA, Oct 21 (TIWN): Along with the country Tripura police also celebrated the Police Martyrs Day here today.
While speaking in the programme, Tripura Director General of Police A K Sukla said October 21 is observing as Police Martyr's Day across the country to commemorate and pay a heartley tribute to those dedicated brave souls who made supreme sacrifices in laying down their lives in services of nation and its people while battling the divisive, anti-national and anti-social elements.

“21 October is Police Martyrs' Day (or Police Commemoration Day), observed by police departments nationwide. On this date in 1959, a Central Reserve Police Force patrol at the Indo-Tibetan border in Ladakh was ambushed by Chinese forces as part of the ongoing Sino-Indian border dispute”, said Sukla.
A total of 662 police personnel of Tripura police were killed in the state while on duty. Only one police personnel was killed in the last year, he said. He further informed that not a single police personnel has been killed this year.
He also said a commemoration week was observed from October 15 to 21 throughout the state. On these days, various schools, colleges, youth clubs, associations, citizen groups were invited to visit their neighboring police station and interact with the police officers.
