Agartala, Oct 11 (TIWN): In the ‘golden era’ of ruling government, patients and patient parties in the main referral hospital of Tripura, Govinda Ballav Pant (GBP) hospital have been suffering from different awful problems since a long period. TIWN team visited GBP Hospital and witnessed first hand the worst sufferings of patients at hospital. According to the sources, most of the staffs are rude, arrogant, lazy and they handle patient with a negative attitude. Every corner of GBP Hospital is filled with filthy disposables, old and dysfunctional water taps, machinery. According to the patients, the state government failed to ensure minimum levels of medical care in GBP hospital. The patients have been facing several problems including drinking water crisis, dirty atmosphere in the hospital, shortage of bed, inadequate doctor’s visit, rough behavior of security, organized corruption to loot money among every level of hospital staffs.

In addition to that lack of care and compassion, such as staff not doing enough to ensure the patient is comfortable, inadequate response to requests or complaints, long waits before or between appointments, including delays in being moved between different departments, dearth of burn ward,  business like attitude of hospital staffs and night stay is the major problem faced by patient and patients parties.

Some of the patient parties have alleged that, the doctors of the GBP hospital allegedly refer the patients outside of the state in case of accident without performing their duty accordingly. They also informed that a section of nurses avoid their responsibilities smoothly pushing them into more pressure. There is a huge lack of care and kindness, such as most of the nurses handle the patients with rough action.

The hospital itself is facing the non-availability of burn wad issue as many of the patients with burn injury visit GBP hospital for treatment. Even after several humble requests, the staffs ignore to provide beds to the patient. As a result, a vast number of the critical and semi-critical patients undergo treatment on the floor, outside of the concern ward day after day. The non-availability sufficient diagnostic machine is also the part inappropriate healthcare in GBP hospital.

The patients have demanded; improvement of hospitality, best treatment at optimal cost, staff development, quality consciousness and patient centric culture must be ensured immediately in the hospital. The patient and its accompanying persons, who are already in huge amount of stress, should not be disturbed more by rough behaviour of the staff. Sympathetic approach should be followed while handling the patients and their relatives. Research is needed to develop cultural competency training programs for hospital staff on patient care. Personality development program and other training programs should be encouraged for bettering managing the organization. The state government should take necessary steps to ensure better hospitality in GBP hospital.
