AGARTALA, March 23 (TIWN): A serious complaint against Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb for irresponsible and intimidatory speeches in public meetings has been complained by Tripura’s both strong oppositions CPI-M and Congress. Congress told the Election Commission, “to cow down and influence voters in violation of electoral code of conduct, already enforced” Biplab Deb has done this offense seeking immediate action against him. . At the same time, breaking protocols, Biplab Deb has bribed voters via words which has been complained to Election Commission by CPI-M. Congress in a letter told Election Commission, “Tripura’s incumbent chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb who had already set a record of sorts in undemocratic activities through deliberate efforts to suppress the opposition dragged electoral politics down to a new low by his irresponsible utterances interspersed with intimidatory tone in a series of speeches after the electoral code of conduct had come into force".

"This constitutes a brazen violation of the code of conduct in force and adversely affects the democratic ambience in the state”.

“It was on last Wednesday , March 20, that the chief minister had addressed three consecutive election meetings in Mazlishpur , Pratapgarh and Badharghat assembly segments which constitute parts of West Tripura (general ) loksabha seat in presence of workers and supporters of respective areas . In all three meetings Biplab Kumar Deb threatened voters with stoppage of DA payment for employees , cut of all social allowances etc unless the BJP won both the loksabha seats and unless prime minister Narendra Modi won the upcoming loksabha election; 2) He emphatically stated that unless BJP was voted and Modi formed the next government in Centre the 12% DA due to the state’s employees would not be possibly paid , social allowances at the rate of Rs 2 thousand per month would be stopped , giving free gas connections under the ‘Ujjwala Yojana’ would come to an end those who have benefited from ‘Saubhagya Yojana’ would have to pay commission and Agartala, capital of Tripura, will never upgraded to a model town and Tripura will never become a model state. Besides, purchase of rice by FCI at high MSP from farmers will be a matter of the past; 3) We consider such intimidatory statements in public speech as a gross and brazen violation of the electoral code of conduct enforced by the election commission with the mean and ulterior motive of extracting votes by resorting to coercion and creating fear in the minds of the electorate which is absolutely unacceptable”,Congress told EC.

Congress has sought proper investigation into the matter.
