AGARTALA, Nov 22 (TIWN): Under Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman, Tripura cabinet has taken a bold decision to fix the private nursing homes which often provide "doubtful-reports". This law will fix private hospitals as well Govt Doctors who are habituated with private practices neglecting hospitals duties.

After a cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening, Tripura Law Minister Ratan lal Nath said, "Till day, Tripura had no strict law for private and govt hospitals. Before 42 years in 1976 Tripura Clinical Establishment 1976 Act was introduced which was just for namesake, but in reality it was not at all a law to control hospitals activities"

"Day by day private hospitals, private nursing homes, private laboratory, radiology centres, collection centre are increasing district-wise but no rules and regulation are yet imposed on them. There was no rule earlier in Tripura to control those hospitals. We have removed that faulty law. We have introduced Central Govt's 2010 law, which was implemented for other Northeast states but as Tripura's previous Govt said that we have rule already for Health Service, so that rule was not imposed in Tripura. But we observed, Centre's rule is very-very tough. Thus we have imposed Centre's law", he added.

"There will be a State Council headed by Secretary of the Health Dept according to the central law but we also decided to introduce a new law which will create District level District councils to monitor, control the ongoings in the hospitals", he said.

"From now, Govt hospitals will also be monitored. So, now a doctor can not sit in the chamber in hopital duty hours. At the same time, this law to be imposed on private hospitals, private nursing homes, private laboratory, radiology centres, collection centre", Ratan lal Nath told media.

"Also there must be display of each records including billing and other tests, OPD, IPD, reports, private prescriptions and all necessary documents and it has be maintained regularly. It's often seen that hospitals are giving doubtful reports, billing and thus to develop health service overall this new law has been introduced", Nath said.
