AGARTALA, Nov 18 (TIWN): After the brutal attacks held in past two days in Belonia, Bishalgarh where Ex-Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was attacked by BJP activists openly, CPI-M National General Secretary Sitaram Yechury holding press conference at Delhi said that BJP’s increasing attacks will be defeated in coming days and the democracy will be restored. Yechury and Brinda Karat were addressing while publishing a booklet titled “Democracy Under Attack” with reference to 70 out 100 of BJP led brutal attacks upon CPI-M leaders, supporters took place in Tripura. Sitaram Yechury said, “This booklet has recorded few incidents including how Tripura Ex-Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was attacked at Bishagarh on Friday. At Bishalgarh, not only Manik Sarkar but MLA Narayan Chowdhury was also severely attacked. Apart from that ongoing time to time attacks upon CPI-M party offices, activists’ houses have been recorded. In many attacks, BJP, RSS engaged in brutality before the children.Amid the mountain attacks upon the comrades physically, their livelihoods have also been snatched further. Farmers, poor men deprive of agriculture rights, working rights on political target”.

“Tripura shows the real face of BJP. 5 of CPI-M supporters were killed in Tripura, but as soon as human blood will be red, red flag will not go down. In Tripura, BJP’s attack will also be defeated”, Yechury added.

Brinda Karat while addressing media, slammed the BJP Govt that when state is suffering from crisis situation, BJP-IPFT Govt is unable to control law and order and both the parties are spreading communal disruptions statewide.

In a separate statement, the Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) has condemned the continuing attacks against the CPI(M) and its elected representatives in Tripura.

"On November 16, a meeting addressed by Manik Sarkar, leader of the opposition, at the Bishalgarh CPI(M) office was encircled by BJP men, who tried to disrupt the meeting. Earlier BJP miscreants had sought to prevent people coming to attend the meeting. On their return also, many participants were attacked. 35 were injured. Narayan Chowdhury, MLA’s car was also attacked", Polit Bureau statement said. 

"There have been a series of attacks on members of the zilla parishad. BJP goondas had attacked the house of South Tripura zilla parishad president, Himangshu Roy. Subsequently, on November 15, while proceeding to the zilla parishad meeting in Belonia town, BJP goons attacked the cars of Roy and other zilla parishad members. In the attack, some policemen were also injured"

"Such attacks on opposition political parties and local body office-bearers have become a common feature in Tripura. The BJP state government is responsible for this deplorable state of affairs.The Polit Bureau demands that the state government take immediate steps to prevent such violent activities and ensure the conduct of normal political activities", Polit Bureau statement said.
