State level review meeting on improvement of quality education held : Chief Minister stresses on improving school education performance

AGARTALA, September 26 (TIWN): A state level review meeting on improvement of quality education was held at Pragna Bhavan here today.Speaking in the review meeting, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that there are schools where attendance of students are very poor. Poor attendance is one of the factors responsible for poor performance. Steps to enhance the percentage of attendance need to be taken. The SMC concerned may involved with the exercise intended to enhance the percentage of attendance. Attendance upto 85% must be ensured by all concerned HM/AHM/TICs, he added.There is also need to evolve a mechanism for evaluating the performance of the children internally from class IX onwards. Motivation is also equally important. Motivation works. Steps to raise the motivational level of students are needed. The involvement of community leaders, PRI bodies and SMC needs to be encouraged in the process. The participation of those must be ensured by the HM/AHM/TICs of all schools, Manik Sarkar added.

Punctuality in attendance is to be emphasized by all concerned. Teachers have a pivotal role to play for the sake of teaching learning. Everybody associated with the system should have the concern. Action against those found absent in an unauthorized manner must be taken firmly, he mentioned.

While imparting teaching in the class room, one-to-one interaction between the teacher and the student has to be ensured for the sake of evaluation of child’s understanding of the lesson taught. There are reports showing that the results of the examinations conducted at school level are published late. The trend is very disappointing. The results must be published on time, evaluated answer scripts must be distributed amongst the students after seven days from the date of examination held on a subject in  case of unit test/half yearly exam in elementary stage (Class 1 to 8) and within 15 days in case of annual exam, he said.

Holding of SMC meeting on a regular basis/monthly basis must be ensured 1st Tuesday of each month. The process as such should start at the beginning of the academic year. All stakeholders must understand that the school is the property of the community and their participation in the process of running the school is of utmost importance. Minimum of 75% attendance of students must be ensured in a year to avail of any kind of stipend facility. Parents of low attendee students must be motivated to send their wards to schools regularly for which parents-teacher meeting must be conducted in each and every school, action against those engaging proxy teachers must be taken and each and every school complex needs to remain neat and clean. From the hygienic point of view, care must be taken by the school authority to keep the school premises neat and clean, Chief Minister mentioned.

Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty, Principal Secretary of school education Dr. K. Rajeswara Rao, President of TBSE Amitabha Debroy and other officials were present.
