AGARTALA, Oct 9 (TIWN): Tripura Women Commission’s new Chairperson Barnali Goswami has slammed the parents who are desperate to arrange grooms for their daughters at a very early stage of their lives. Expressing concerns about the increasing child marriages in Tripura especially with girls, Barnali Goswami told media, we overcame the tensed situation of early marriage, but again this disease of early marriage is in trend. "The crime against women begins from home and those parents who are eager to arrange grooms for their girl child are equally responsible for that. Let her be stable, let her study and be mentally matured. Allow her to stand on own feet", Barnali Goswami said adding further around 10-12 such cases have been revealed recently where due to parents such trends the girls' are attacked in laws house. "It's not mandatory that all girls need to marry with someone in exchange of bribe or anything else. If for 2-3 years her marriage delays, nothing will happen. If also she can't marry in her whole life then also it's okay but most important issue is for her to be established in life and standing on own feet", the Commissioner added.

Talking about the dowry system which has become a common practice in maximum families, she said, "Dowry has become easy going thing in Tripura. In exchange of dowry, no girl should marry a person just because the person is established or doing govt job".

"The person who is taking bribe before marriage how can you expect love from him in future ? Because he didn't come to the girl for love, but in exchange of money he is ready to become the groom of that girl".

"Marriage is based on love, not cash-exchange", she added.
