AGARTALA, July 12 (TIWN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has interacted with women via video conference on Thursday and in Tripura huge numbers of women led by BJP Mohila Morcha activists joined to listen PM.
At Agartala Rabindra Bhawan the Mohila Morcha led Self Help Group’s women gathered in the presence of govt employees, whereas in other subdivisions also women joined the progarmme.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the government is committed to empower women of the country to be self-sufficient.
Interacting with women associated with with various self-help groups across the country via video conferencing, PM Modi said women just need to be provided with ample opportunities.
"For women empowerment financial independence is necessary. Women are enterprising, they don't need to be taught, only need to be given opportunities to perform," he said during the interaction through the Narendra Modi Mobile App.
Highlighting the importance of women empowerment especially in rural areas for overall development of the society, Modi said women in the country have huge
"So far 45 lakh women self help groups have been created with 5 crore active women participants. In fact these groups have added one more earning member in these five crore families in rural areas," PM Modi said.
BJP local leader Pratima Bhowmik said, “Till day Self Help was just to take the money and not to do anything, but now we have to focus how to make the women independent. Two Saras-Mela (Self Help group fairs) will be conducted so that women can sell their products at there”.
