AGARTALA, September 7 (TIWN): The Tribal Students Union (TSU) and Tribal Youth Federation (TYF) today protested separate statehood demands of IPFT of Twipraland model and said that the political party was trying to create unrest in the state. Addressing a press conference at Agartala this afternoon, TYF president Pranab Debbarma said that the organization would launch a mass movement on September 10 against the demand of separate statehood from inside the state.
“We want peace, not secession. We agree that tribal communities of Tripura should be developed but then true development can only come through inclusive development and not division on ethnic lines”, he said.
The TYF leader said that Forest Development Minister Naresh Jamatia, senior left leader and member of the TTAADC Radhacharan Debbarma and others would attend the rally on the day. “We will demand to ensure that tribal lands remain in tribal hands, wholesome development of the tribal communities and ensure majority in the district council”, Pranab Debbarma said.
He condemned the move of IPFT to create a new Twipraland out of Tripura and said that the agitation would only leads to grim future.
