AGARTALA, June 5 (TIWN): Two Indian journalists – Gauri Lankesh and Sudip Dutta Bhaumik – were among the 18 fallen members of the media added to the Journalists Memorial by the prestigious Newseum at a ceremony here on Monday.

Each year, the Newseum, a museum here dedicated to the understanding of the importance of a free press, selects a representative group of journalists whose names are added to the memorial and whose deaths illustrate the dangers faced by journalists.

This year eight of the 18 journalists added to the memorial are women.

About Sudip Dutta Bhaumik, the Newseum said he had investigated "police corruption" for local daily newspapers in Tripura. On November 21, 2017, Bhaumik was asked to meet with Tapan Debbarma, the head of the local paramilitary force. A week earlier, Bhaumik had published an article about "corruption" within the force. The men argued and Debbarma allegedly ordered his bodyguard to shoot Bhaumik, who was killed at the scene, it said.

But the surprising matter is when USA’s Prestigious ‘Newseum’ Organisation honored Tripura’s murdered Journalist Sudip Datta Bhaumik, Tripura CM Biplab Deb develops cold feet on handing over Two Journalist murders for CBI Investigation.

It was rather publicized CBI is ‘unready’ to take the cases as ‘CBI has more important work to do’.

Even after many reports came to pressure the govt for CBI investigation, but state govt’s role is silent over the issue. However, before the election the response of the BJP  was just the opposite. BJP as opposition party ahead of election, said they don’t have trust upon Tripura Police and CID, but when election is ended, BJP Govt has become silent, indeed far from handing over the cases to CBI. State Police right now is investigating the case filed against State Police’s corruption.
