AGARTALA, June 3 (TIWN): Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Saturday while addressing in felicitation programme at Rabindra Bhawan conducted for state sports legends said, very less people in Tripura villages know about Tennis icon Somdev Devvarman, who is also state royal family member.

CM was referring about the importance of inviting sports icons in annual sports of state schools and mentioned this about Somdev Devvarman.

CM said, it has been seen that Tripura schools even though invite political figures in annual sports but no sports star are invited. But when Somdev Devvarman will seat in a programme at school, automatically Tripura will know about him.

Somdev Kishore Devvarman (born 13 February 1985) is a former professional Indian Tennis player. He hit the headlines for being the only collegiate player to have made three consecutive finals at the NCAA, winning back-to-back finals in his junior and senior years at the University of Virginia. Only three other players have matched that record since 1950. His 44–1 win-loss record in 2008 at the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship is unprecedented.

On yesterday, to motivate the state towards sports, Tripura's 2 sports icons Somdev Devvarman, Dipa Karmakar and one Sportsperson Laximta Reang were felicitated by Govt of Tripura.
